Erica Gilmore Statement: Bail Revocation For Alleged Waffle House Shooter
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
This is a testament to the power of ordinary citizens standing up, speaking out, and making their voices heard.
Mayoral candidate and Councilwoman-at-large Erica Gilmore issued the following statement:
Nashville, TN (April 25, 2018) - Regarding the bail revocation in the Waffle House murder case, I echo the comments by our District Attorney's Office, calling yesterday's decision, "...a great move by the judge to revoke bond. I can only guess or assume that he felt the pulse of the community just as we did. The last thing people wanted was for him to be released."
This is a testament to the power of ordinary citizens standing up, speaking out, and making their voices heard. Public pressure worked. The fact that this man was apprehended is a testament to our courageous law enforcement. The fact that he will not be released on bond is a testament to the power of everyday citizens to affect change.
Releasing into our community such an astounding threat to the public's safety -- even worse, while survivors Shanita Waggoner and Sharita Henderson heal at Vanderbilt Medical -- would've caused the public to lose even more confidence in our judicial system.
That a terrorist's release was even remotely possible should cause us all to redouble our efforts to work for the day when justice is truly blind and applied equally under the law.
